Our Presentation :

There are many options when it comes to selecting a successor trustee, and selecting the right one can be overwhelming.

There is no specific requirement to serve as trustee, so a trustee can be just about anyone, including a family member or friend, so long as they are over age 18 and have capacity. But, do you want just "anyone" managing your assets for you and/or your family? Sometimes a private fiduciary is the best option and sometimes it's a corporate fiduciary.

Our presenters, Pablo O'Brien, a local private fiduciary, and Cynthia Lemus, a Senior Trust Officer with Mechanics Bank, will discuss the benefits of selecting a third party trustee as well as the different services provided by both. They will also share some redacted stories of how complicated family dynamics, challenging beneficiaries and clients can make life interesting for anybody serving as a Trustee.

About Our Speakers:

Cynthia Lemus is a Vice President and Senior Trust Officer with Mechanics Bank. A licensed attorney, she brings over 20 years of experience administering a variety of complex trusts. She holds a B.S., Business Administration, from Notre Dame de Namur University and a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law. She is also a graduate of Cannon Financial Institute Personal Trust School hosted by Pepperdine University.

Pablo O'Brien is a licensed California Fiduciary and a National Certified Guardian. He is also a fourth-generation Bay Area native with extensive ties to the local community. After graduating with an MBA in Finance from UCLA, he worked as a Silicon Valley executive for most of the past 30 years, with a brief stint in the Peace Corps as a small business advisor. He has seen within his own family how older adults can become vulnerable to unscrupulous players. Since then, he has been involved in trusts and money management, listening to and guiding family members through life's transitions.
